Volkswagen T4 Transporter Autohomes Komet Camper Model History
Autohomes unveiled a new model based on the VW T4 platform called the Autohomes Komet Camper at the 1993 Earls Court Caravan Show. Note that the Autohomes Komet name had been used previously for a VW T25 based model. The interior had kitchen and cupboards along the side behind the drivers seat and the rear seat converted into a 3/4 width double bed. The Autohomes Komet had a hightop roof which had a fold out bed inside (making it a four berth) and a tailgate ladder leading to a rear roof rack. The VW T4 Autohomes Komet was very similar to another model released at the same time called the VW T4 Autohomes Kamper but came with a better specification as standard including occasional 2 person table, crockery set for four, propex blown air heating with thermostatic control, swivelling driver seat, adjustable cab seat arms and Thetford 265 porta potti toilet. These were available as extra cost options on the VW T4 Autohomes Kamper. 4) Volkswagen T4 Transporter Autohomes Komet Furniture Specification The Volkswagen T4 Transporter Autohomes Komet layout consisted of:
Materials used: Upholstery - San Remo 4003 Colour 1 Mattress - Beige Tickling Curtains - Prestigious Woodrose Roof lining - Foam back and plain snow. Wall board - Flax Grey Furniture board - Shogun V551
A) Sliding seat (that converts into double bed 1880 mm x 1118 mm) Seat slides forward using rails in floor and can be used in three positions as well as being removed totally if required.
EE) Fully adjustable swivelling captains cab seats upholstered in same material as rear seats. Seats had headrests and adjustable armrests.
Removable swivelling front table.
F) Rear inertia seat belts. GG) Table storage area behind drivers seat.(for when table is not in use) H) Free standing table.
I) Spinflo two burner hob and grill. J) Sink and drainer.
L) Wardrobe
NN) Thetford 235 (or 265) porta potti toilet stored in small cupboard next to the fridge.
MS) Rear Shelf
O) Rooflight. R) Overcab Front and Side Storage Lockers.
S) Gas bottle cupboard with space for one Camping Gaz 907 cylinder. T) Thermostatically controlled Propex blown air heating system which is flued to exterior of vehicle. Heater outlet is at side forward of the rear seat as shown in photo below.
U) Electrolux RM 4207 three way (gas / 12 volt / 240 volt operated) refrigerator (with electronic ignition system) below. Fridge has internal freezer compartment.
Y) 75 litre (16.5 gallon) or 78 litre (17 gallon) fresh water tank for pressurised water system with electrically pumped water tap via a self priming Shureflo water pump. Externally locking filler cap. Z) 38 Litre (8.3 gallon) or 25 litre (5.5 litre) wastewater tank.
Other features include: Stainless steel ladder with rear roof rack.
Full carpeting throughout. CEC 225 (Plug In Systems) 240 volt mains electric hook up with safety protection via RCCD circuit breaker and two MCB’s (in rear cupboard). Earlier models were equipped with a Zig CF8 control panel with built in battery charger for leisure battery, individual fuses for each electrical appliance, master switch for 12 volt water pump, 12 volt outlet socket and a Zig water gauge.
Later models were equipped with a Zig Marque ||| electrical control panel with Zig X2 charger for leisure battery, individual fuses for each electrical appliance, master switch for 12 volt water pump, water level gauge and a 12 volt outlet socket. Possibly an optional extra. Internal 240 Volt mains outlet socket.
Opening sliding window behind sink and cooker and in sliding door. Fluorescent lights.
Rear seat restraint straps. Head rests on both cab seats. Fire extinguisher and fire blanket. Smoke alarm. Mains charger and second battery. TV Socket. Intermittent wipe and two speed wipers. Padded steering wheel. Two courtesy lights. Blinds with flyscreens / curtains all round. Specially selected seat fabrics with fire retardant foam. Heated rear window with wash wipe. Wheel trims. Crockery set for four persons.
5) Options available at extra cost included: X) Carver Cascade 2GE water heater with mains hook up facility (located in kitchen cupboard).

7) Volkswagen T4 Transporter Autohomes Komet Side Stripes and Logos The coachline stripes on the front, side and rear were green and blue.
The roof had stripes at the front, rear and side and a Komet logo on the front and rear as shown below:
